Planting Anemone
- Plant in spring after the last frost.
- If you cannot plant your bulbs and perennials right away, store them in a cool, dry, dark location, like a basement.
- For best results, soak the corms in a bowl of water for 3 hours before planting.
- Plant them 8 cm (3 in) deep and 5 to 8 cm (2 to 3 in) apart. Plant them on their edge if you’re not sure how to plant them.
- Water thoroughly after planting.
Growing Anemone
- These bulbs should be planted in humus- rich, well-drained soil.
- Plant in groups of fifteen or more bulbs which then appear more natural.
- Also look great when planted at the front of borders or rock gardens.
- Shelter from strong winds.
Care Anemone
- These bulbs require frequent watering until they come into flowering. Once flowering, they should be lightly watered.
- These flowers last a long time as cut flowers, making them popular for arrangements and bouquets.
Winterizing Anemone
- After flowering, the leaves should be allowed to die down. The leaves will gather sunlight and provide nourishment for next year’s show.
- For newly planted bulbs, provide a winter mulch of evergreen boughs or salt marsh hay after the ground freezes to help prevent heaving.
