Planting Eremurus
- Plant in spring after the last frost.
- Keep plants cool until planting and be careful that they do not dry out.
- Dig a hole and spread out the roots so that they are not coiled in the bottom of the hole.
- Plant rhizome flat in a sunny to semi-shaded area about 10 to 15 cm (4 to 6 in) deep and 40 to 50 cm (16 to 20 in) apart.
- Water thoroughly after planting.
Growing Eremurus
- These plants do not appreciate being moved so it is important to ensure they are planted in good, fertile soil.
- Shelter from strong winds.
- This is a bold plant that can be used as a focal point in the middle or back of the garden.
Care Eremurus
- Watch for slug damage and use preventative measures if slugs are active.
- These flowers last a long time as cut flowers, making them popular for arrangements and bouquets.
- These flowers attract hummingbirds and butterflies.
Winterizing Eremurus
- Foliage should be cut back in the fall.
- For new plants, provide a winter mulch of evergreen boughs or salt marsh hay after the ground freezes to help prevent heaving.
